Two years ago today hip hop lost one of it's greatests icons The Notorious BIG... After a very rough and turbulent year, Biggie in his last days had come to some sort of cross roads in his life where he was at peace. I had the opportunity to speak with him 4 days before his death.. In fact his last radio interview was on our radio station 106 KMEL.. I sat next to him while he spoke and joked around about all the things he planned to do in '97..

The Biggie I recall was set on making peace with those who saw him as an enemy here on the west coast. In fact he had spent an entire month in Los Angeles.. He just knew that once people heard the new album, especially the track 'Going Back To Cali' all animosity toward him would cease... He was also becoming a bit more spiritual.. Biggie was maturing and seemed poised to become an even bigger influence in hip hop..

What was so eerie when I look back was the fact that I recall Biggie being warned on several occassions about being so visible on the west coast especially in LA. The folks who normally would secure him..[Navy Seals] weren't hired to do the job on his last trip.. Biggie was really feeling comfortable.. One of my co-workers, DJ Franzen.. used to kick it with Biggie when he would come up to the Bay Area. His last words to him as he left the building enroute to LA were 'Becareful down there in LA.. Don't get caught up.. It's not always as it seems..'.. Days later we got that phone call informing us that Biggie was no longer with us. He was gunned down while leaving a party at the Soul Train Music Awards. He was headed over to 92.3 The Beat our sister station to cut some studio IDs ironically for our radio station..

As was the case with 2Pac who was killed almost 6 months to the day prior to Biggie, no one has been able to come up with any leads as to who took him out. Over the past couple of years it has become quite apparent that there is and has been no interest on the part of LAPD to figure things out.. To put it simply.. Biggie like 2Pac was assassinated...
